What happens when we feel unworthy, unsafe, or unseen? Often, we try to fix it…

Mercury in Vedic Astrology: Healing Your Voice, Expressing Your Truth
As we close out this month of fire, movement, and transformation, I find myself reflecting on the power of words. March has been a month of new energy, courageous action, and alignment with purpose. And now, as we approach the New Moon, the invitation is to pause—and to ask ourselves:
Am I speaking from truth or from reaction?
Am I listening to connect—or listening to respond?
In Vedic Astrology, Mercury (Budha) governs not just communication, but the way we process, interpret, and express our thoughts. It’s our internal translator—of emotions, intuition, and ideas. And when Mercury is blocked or afflicted, we often find ourselves misunderstood, defensive, or withholding.
In my personal journey, I’ve realized that healing my relationship with Mercury meant healing my relationship with communication itself. Not just the words I say, but how I listen, how I hold space, and how I respond when I’m triggered.
This is why I’m especially excited to be offering something new in April:
👉 The Compassion Project: The Language of Love—a 10-week journey into Nonviolent Communication (NVC), rooted in heart-centered presence, emotional awareness, and the sacred art of listening and expressing.

Mercury in the Chart: The Cosmic Communicator
In Vedic Astrology, Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, and is connected to the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)—the energetic center of truth, honesty, and clear expression.
A well-placed Mercury brings:
- Clear thinking & speech
- Adaptability and intelligence
- Playful, skillful communication
- Active listening and curiosity
When Mercury is imbalanced, you might notice:
- Overthinking, mental exhaustion
- Defensiveness or shutting down
- Speaking impulsively or harshly
- Misunderstandings and miscommunication
When I look at someone’s chart and see Mercury in tension with other planets—especially the Moon or Mars—I often ask:
How do you communicate when you feel emotional?
Do you listen to understand or listen to defend?
And when I turn those questions inward… I realize, even with all my spiritual training and Tantric tools, communication is still a daily practice. One that starts with presence, breath, and self-awareness.
Tantra, NVC & the Throat Chakra
In Tantra, communication is not about control—it’s about energetic resonance. What you say carries vibration. What you withhold creates contraction.
In Nonviolent Communication, we learn to slow down the inner reaction and translate judgment or blame into needs, feelings, and requests.
This is how I see Mercury at its highest expression:
- Not just communication, but compassionate connection.
- Not just intellect, but integration of mind and heart.
- Not just words, but presence behind the words.
Practices to Heal Mercury Energy & Open the Throat Chakra
“HAM” Mantra Chanting – Activate and purify the throat chakra.
Mirror Practice – Speak your truth aloud. Notice what feels honest… and what feels rehearsed.
Conscious Listening – Try listening to a loved one without interrupting, fixing, or responding. Just hear them.
NVC Self-Connection Pause – Ask: What am I feeling? What am I needing? before speaking.
Today’s Thought Exercises:
- How Do You Communicate Under Stress? Reflect on what changes in your voice, tone, or words when you feel emotionally triggered.
- What Do You Want to Be Heard For? If someone could truly hear you right now, what would you want them to understand about you?
- Are You Listening with Presence? In your relationships, are you listening for understanding—or for your turn to speak? What might shift if you truly listened from the heart?
